Your Brand’s DNA: a talk about how employer branding works from the inside out

Abstract for the programme

Length: 30 to 45 minutes

A strong employer brand grows from within. The talk shows how employer branding succeeds when employees understand their brand and carry it convincingly to the outside world, and what that means for image and appeal as an employer.

In the talk “Your Brand’s DNA”, Christian Dietz shows how a brand grows from within. Only when employees understand it and identify with it do they carry it convincingly to the outside world. From a neuromarketing perspective, he explains how identification and motivation arise and how they turn into employer branding that strengthens both image and appeal as an employer. An answer to the skills shortage that starts with your own people. The talk is aimed at everyone in a company, from apprentices to management.

Slides

This is what the slides look like.

Every slide is a picture, often starring FRED. The brain remembers pictures more easily than bullet points. That’s the whole trick.

From the core to the head and the heart

Brands often have a pretty nice shell: a strong design, a creative slogan, maybe even a logo that looks great on a presentation slide. Their real potential lies deeper. Christian Dietz thinks of a strong brand as a double helix: one strand works inwards and creates identification, the other carries this self-image outwards to customers and applicants. If one is missing, recruitment talks about a fantastic company culture while the workforce briefly looks up, puzzled, and asks which company is actually meant.

Why a neuromarketing expert talks about employer branding

A brand works in the head, for customers in front of the shelf just as for employees on a Monday morning. The agency owner brings this perspective to the employer brand. Motivation can’t be ordered, not even by an all-staff email with the subject line “Please be authentic from today”. And the fruit bowl, with all due respect to its vitamins, is a little out of its depth with this task.

Christian Dietz shows how companies involve their people in the brand strategy so that identification can grow. This creates credible corporate influencers who shape the image without coming across as walking billboards. It won’t cure the skills shortage overnight. But it provides good reasons why people want to work at that particular company, and stay.
